Alright folks, I’m in a bit of a pickle over here in Sacramento. My middle girl, Chloe, is turning 8 soon, and she’s absolutely obsessed with Spiderman right now. Like, full-on, wears the mask to breakfast, swinging from the banister (don't worry, safety first, mostly) kind of obsessed. So, naturally, we’re doing a Spiderman party. The theme is locked, the cake is ordered, but I am utterly stumped on the goodie bags. Specifically, I’m trying to figure out the best spiderman party goodie bags set to send her friends home with.

You know, us parents, we want to make it special, right? Not just throw in a handful of cheap plastic junk that ends up in the trash by morning. I’ve been trawling Amazon and even some local party stores out here in the farm country, and everything just looks… samey. Or, honestly, kinda pricey for what you get. I saw this post the other day about a Spiderman Party Photo Props Set Fail and it got me thinking about how easily these themed things can go south if you're not careful. I definitely don’t want a goodie bag fail!

Chloe, bless her heart, has her own ideas, which mostly involve candy and more Spiderman stuff. Hazel (4) just wants whatever Chloe has, and Luna (1) will probably eat the wrapper. My wife thinks we should just do a big candy bar, but I really like the idea of a little take-home treat. I tried a TikTok recipe last night for some Spiderman sugar cookies – let’s just say they ended up looking more like abstract art than web-slingers. Maybe I had too much coffee before I started. Anyway, I’m leaning towards a pre-assembled spiderman party goodie bags set if it’s good quality, but I’m also not opposed to putting something together myself if it’s genuinely cool and won’t break the bank.

I’m expecting about 10-12 kids, mostly around Chloe’s age, so 7-9 year olds. What has everyone else done for superhero parties, or specifically Spiderman ones? Any secret sources for cool little toys or useful items? How do you balance the "fun junk" with something slightly more lasting? Any advice on a solid spiderman party goodie bags set or just general goodie bag wisdom would be super appreciated!

Oh, Wyatt, I hear you! Goodie bags are always such a brain-bender, aren’t they? My Emma (who's 13 now, so a bit past Spiderman, but we've been through every phase) had a superhero party when she was 7, and I remember staring at empty bags in my San Jose kitchen, wondering if I'd ever figure it out. Being a military spouse, we move every year or so, which means I've gotten pretty good at throwing a party together with whatever I can find quickly, usually from Costco or Target. My main rule of thumb is: one "main" item, and then fill with consumables. This way, if the toy is a dud, at least they got some treats!

For Emma's superhero bash, I ended up getting a big bulk pack of small, unbranded superhero-themed notebooks and pencils from Amazon. They weren't specifically Spiderman, but they fit the vibe. Then I hit up Costco for massive bags of fruit snacks and those little mini chocolate bars. I also found a pack of those temporary tattoos that were superhero related. The kids loved them. I think I spent maybe $4-5 per bag, and that felt pretty reasonable. One thing I did wrong, though, was not having a backup plan for the one kid who was allergic to chocolate. I felt terrible! Always remember to have an alternative for allergies, even if it's just a small bag of pretzels or a sticker sheet. I usually never follow a recipe exactly, but for allergies, I learned that you definitely need to stick to the rules. I also had to figure out how many goodie bags I needed for a woodland party theme a few years back, and the principles are the same regardless of theme – it’s always about having enough for everyone plus a couple of spares. Better safe than sorry For happy kids!

📍 past parties, ju👤 Youth leader here in San Jose🗓 Member since 2022⏱ 63 min later

Hey Wyatt! Great choice with Spiderman, that’s always a winner with the younger crowd. As a youth leader here in San Jose, I’ve seen my share of parties, and my son Caleb (11) is still a big fan of anything Marvel. Goodie bags are tough because you want them to be memorable but not just more clutter for parents. I’m a big believer in a creative, somewhat practical approach, maybe with a nod to some tradition or culture if you can weave it in.

For Caleb’s 8th birthday, we did a "Build Your Own Superhero" theme. Instead of a full spiderman party goodie bags set, we put together individual components. We got plain red and blue drawstring bags – you can find them cheap on Amazon or at craft stores – and then we had a station where kids could pick out fabric markers to draw their own superhero emblem. Inside, we put a small comic book (you can often find these in dollar bins at bookstores or even some grocery stores), a pack of superhero stickers, and a simple glider toy. I also made some homemade trail mix with a mix of dried fruits and nuts, which felt a bit healthier than just candy. I’m a total Pinterest addict, so I got loads of ideas for the bags from there. It’s amazing what you can do with a bit of felt and some hot glue. Sometimes, I even reuse decorations from past parties, just adapt them a little. Like those Superhero Party Treat Bags Set ideas? You could easily buy plain ones and just stick on some Spiderman cutouts you print yourself. It saves a few bucks and adds a personal touch. The kids really got into customizing their bags and it made them feel more involved. Plus, a comic book is something they can actually read and enjoy longer than a plastic spinner.

📍 party logistics, th👤 Big hit🗓 Member since 2024⏱ 62 min later

Howdy, Wyatt! Alexander here from Omaha. Sounds like Chloe’s going to have a fantastic birthday, Spiderman is a classic! With grandkids Liam (4), Willow (5), and Caleb (8) running around, I’ve become quite the expert in party logistics, thanks in no small part to my spreadsheets. For goodie bags, I always think practical and fun. And honestly, Amazon Prime has become my best friend for everything these days. Saves me so many trips to the store.

When Caleb (my oldest grandson) turned 8, he wanted a superhero theme too, but more general Avengers. I found a pretty good bulk pack of little play-doh containers in red and blue, which fit the Spiderman colors perfectly. Kids that age still love play-doh, and it’s something they can use repeatedly. I also grabbed some packs of those small, foldable frisbees that have different designs on them – found a bulk set of 20 for about $15, which isn't bad at all. And yes, candy, because a party without a little treat is just… well, it’s still a party, but candy makes it better! I usually toss in a couple of lollipops or a small chocolate bar. I actually made a spreadsheet for this one party to track all the goodie bag contents and costs – my wife teases me, but it keeps me organized! I considered getting a pre-made spiderman party goodie bags set, but I found that buying individual items in bulk gave me more control over quality and cost. For example, instead of flimsy plastic masks, I bought an 11-pack of Kids Birthday Party Hats and added some Spiderman stickers to make them themed. It was a big hit.

My advice is to pick two or three solid items that aren't just going to break immediately. Small craft kits, little puzzles, or even some cool erasers or pencils. Think about what your own kids actually keep and play with for more than five minutes. It’s easy to get carried away, especially when you’re trying to make it perfect for your kiddo. Just remember the goal is a little thank you, not a whole new toy chest!
