Baby Shark Party for My Three-Year-Old! What are YOUR go-to supplies?
Hey GINYUParty fam!
My little Jude (my youngest, who just turned 3, not the 10-year-old Jude, haha!) is OBSESSED with Baby Shark, and we're planning a small-ish party for him next month. As a daycare owner with five kids of my own running around (Jude 3, Ethan 5, Jude 10, Noah 12, Arjun 13, and our dachshund Maggie!), I'm usually a spreadsheet-wielding party planning pro. But this Baby Shark theme has me stumped a little, mostly because I'm trying to be really mindful of waste.
I'm in Louisville, KY, and I spend a lot of time thrift store hunting for party decor. I’ve found some amazing stuff over the years – like those cute little animal figurines I turned into cupcake toppers for Ethan’s farm party last year. But for Baby Shark? It’s been mostly plastic junk, which is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I really want to find the best party supplies for baby shark party that aren't single-use plastic nightmares.
I’m looking for ideas for reusable decorations, maybe some cute favor ideas that aren't just plastic trinkets, and general tips for keeping things eco-conscious. Does anyone have any brilliant ideas for plates, cups, or even DIY decor that can be saved for future parties or easily recycled/composted? What were your absolute must-haves when you threw a Baby Shark party?
I've already got my party planning spreadsheet color-coded for "under the sea" blues and yellows, but the actual "stuff" section is looking pretty bare! Any and all advice on the best party supplies for baby shark party would be amazing!
Thanks in advance!
Addison
Addison, I feel your pain with the party planning! It's always something, right? I'm Ava, over here in sunny Tampa, FL. As an event coordinator, I've seen it all, and as a mom to Owen (13) and a French bulldog named Churro, I totally get the budget and waste concerns. My secret? Frugal genius, baby! Never pay full price!
For Baby Shark, you don't actually need everything to be officially branded. That's where they get you! I've found that generic blue, yellow, and pink paper plates and cups from Target or even the dollar store work just fine. I always over-buy, so I usually have leftovers for other parties anyway. For cups, you could even grab some reusable plastic ones in those colors, maybe from a bulk store or even Amazon Prime, and then just tie a little fabric ribbon on them for each kid. We used some like that for Owen's 5th birthday, and they still get used for daily juice. Saves a ton of waste!
For decorations, think about getting plain balloons in blue, yellow, and orange. You can draw little shark fins on them with a Sharpie, or even cut out felt fins and glue them on. So much cheaper than branded ones! Seriously, kids are so excited about the theme, they don't care if it's the exact Baby Shark face on every single item. My Owen just wanted to splash around in his kiddie pool, which was basically our "ocean" for the party. Oh, and if you're looking for good quality, reusable cups for kids parties, I actually found some awesome ones that remind me of what I used for a Spiderman party a while back – they had really sturdy designs. You can find similar quality generic ones. They actually did a post about the Best Cups For Spiderman Party, and a lot of those principles apply to just finding good, durable party cups in general, even for Baby Shark.
As for favors, how about little bags of goldfish crackers (the actual fish, not the snack – though that's good too!) with a "Thank you for coming to my FIN-tastic party!" tag? Or small bubble wands. I always grab those when they go on sale at Publix. One time I bought 50 bubble wands for $15 after a holiday, thinking I'd use them for community events. We still have like 20 left two years later, which just shows how much I over-buy! But hey, saves me a trip later!
Hope this helps kickstart your spreadsheet, Addison!
Hey Addison! Jack here from rainy Portland, OR. Church youth leader, 5 kids at home (Nora 1, Milo 2, Aria 3, Asher 5, Ellie 8) so I'm all about making things last and keeping it eco-friendly. I'm totally with you on avoiding the plastic mountain after a party. It's tough, especially with popular kid themes like Baby Shark!
When Aria had her 3rd birthday (she's 3 now, so this was last year!), she was huge into Baby Shark. My wife and I tried to go super DIY and reusable. For the best party supplies for baby shark party, we focused on fabric. I bought a bunch of blue, yellow, and pink fabric scraps from a local craft surplus store – honestly, it was like $15 for a huge bag. We cut out wave shapes and fish, and my wife sewed them onto a plain white sheet to make a backdrop. It looked pretty cool, and now the sheet is a fort cover! For centerpieces, I filled glass jars with blue water and floating rubber ducks, which were a hit and are now bath toys.
One thing that went a bit wrong was the cake. We tried to make a tiered Baby Shark cake from scratch, using natural food dyes. The blue layer turned out more grey-green, and the yellow layer just looked like scrambled eggs. It tasted fine, but visually it was... abstract. Next time, I’m just buying a plain white cake and letting the kids decorate it themselves with some blue and yellow sprinkles. Live and learn, right?
For activity, we set up a "fishing for sharks" game using a kiddie pool, magnetic fishing rods, and laminated pictures of Baby Shark characters we'd printed and backed with cardboard (again, reusable!). We even made some little party hats out of cardstock and decorated them with glitter and fin cutouts. If you're looking for ideas for those, you could probably get some inspiration from articles like the one on How To Choose The Best Birthday Party Hats – a lot of the structural advice can be adapted even if you're going DIY.
And of course, for snacks, Costco is my go-to. Bulk bags of organic fruit snacks, juice boxes, and those big tubs of pretzels. Minimal packaging, usually! You'll definitely find some of the best party supplies for baby shark party elements among the craft and bulk food aisles, just not the pre-packaged, character-laden stuff. Good luck with Jude's party!
Addison, totally get it! I'm Connor, the "funcle" from Denver, CO, who basically throws parties for my nieces and nephews (Beckett 3, Cole 5, Ivy 9, Luna 10) year-round. I'm a massive Pinterest addict and love a good DIY challenge, especially For party themes. Baby Shark is super popular right now!
For Beckett's third birthday last year, we did an underwater theme that was easily adaptable to Baby Shark. My philosophy is always "creative DIY first, then fill in with Amazon Prime if I absolutely have to." For the best party supplies for baby shark party, I’d suggest investing in a good quality electric balloon pump and some balloons in varying shades of blue, turquoise, and yellow. You can create an amazing balloon arch that looks like bubbles or waves. It's a bit time-consuming, but the visual impact is huge, and it's mostly just balloons, which you can usually find in compostable options these days.
I followed a step-by-step tutorial on Pinterest for making these adorable little cardboard cutouts of the Baby Shark family, and then I attached them to wooden dowels to stick into sand buckets filled with blue tissue paper. Those are totally reusable! The kids loved them, and now Beckett plays with them in his room. We even found some plain white t-shirts at Michael's for about $4 each, and I bought some fabric paints. Each kid got to decorate their own "shark" shirt as an activity, which doubled as a party favor! They loved showing off their unique designs.
For specific themed items, Amazon Prime is your friend. I usually hold out until the last minute, scour Pinterest for ideas, make a list of craft supplies, and then if I'm missing something very specific – like Baby Shark cupcake toppers if I don't want to DIY them – then I'll hit up Amazon. Remember, you can always search for "under the sea" party supplies instead of just "Baby Shark" to broaden your options and sometimes find more generic, reusable items. I even found some really cool iridescent streamers that looked like water, and those are going to be re-used for Ivy's mermaid party later this year. They're basically just fancy balloons for a space party, but in blue and green instead of silver and black! Adaptability is key, right?
Don't stress too much about perfection, Addison. The kids usually just want cake and to play with their friends. Good luck, and send pics of the spreadsheet!
