Hey everyone!

It's Logan here, from Spokane. We're knee-deep in planning Stella's (she's five, going on fifteen!) birthday party, and guess what? She's obsessed with Barbie. Like, next-level obsessed. So, naturally, it's going to be a full-on Barbie Dream Party. Think pink, glitter, and everything fabulous.

As a church youth leader, I'm usually pretty good at organizing, especially with five kids of my own (Ellie is 1, Asher 3, Lily 7, and Chloe is 10). But this hat situation is really getting to me. I'm trying to be super mindful of waste, you know? Reusable everything is my motto. So, buying a bunch of disposable paper hats just feels... wrong. I saw this amazing TikTok tutorial for making fabric cone hats with elastic, and I thought, "Yes! This is it!" Let me tell you, five hours and three glue-gun burns later, I had three lopsided, sad-looking fabric cones. Asher actually cried when I tried to put one on him. Back to square one, apparently.

Now I'm stuck wondering, **how many cone hats do I need for a Barbie party**? We're inviting about 10 of Stella's friends, plus my own crew, so that's like 15-17 kids total. I saw an 8-pack for $7.99 at Target, but that means buying at least two packs, possibly three, and then I'm left with all these extras. What do you guys do? Do you just buy a ton and hope for the best? Or is there some secret party hat math I'm missing? I honestly feel like I spend more time trying to figure out **how many cone hats do I need for a Barbie party** than I do on the actual cake!

Any wisdom from fellow parents/party throwers would be super appreciated!

Thanks! Logan (@logan80)

πŸ“ Columbus, OHπŸ‘€ Unicorn themeπŸ—“ Member since 2022⏱ 63 min later

Logan, I feel your pain! Planning parties for my nephew Milo (2) and nieces Aurora (8) and Arjun (9) in Columbus, OH, is always an adventure. Especially with the last-minute curveballs they throw! My sister and I planned Aurora's 8th birthday last year, which was a unicorn theme. We had about 15 kids, give or take. I went full DIY for the hats because I thought it would be cute and crafty, which is usually my jam. I picked up some plain white cardstock, glitter, and elastic from Meijer – probably spent about $15 on materials for a dozen hats. Big mistake. HUGE. The elastic kept popping off because the cardstock wasn't thick enough, and the glitter was *everywhere*. We probably had 8 usable hats by party time. Half the kids ended up with sticky tape holding theirs together, or they just gave up. Honestly, next time, I'm just buying them. I always overthink things like **how many cone hats do I need for a Barbie party** when I'm planning. I even looked up that GINYOU article on How Many Birthday Hats Do I Need For A Minecraft Party to get some general ideas, even though it wasn't Barbie. But it still didn't help with my DIY woes! Live and learn, right?

Oh man, party hats. My nemesis. As a military spouse, we move every single year, so I'm constantly purging party supplies. My poor Maya (she just turned 1!) has already had three "first" birthday parties in different states. For her actual first birthday in Memphis, I was so sleep-deprived and overwhelmed with packing that I just grabbed the biggest pack of hats I could find at Party City – I think it was a 24-pack of plain pink ones for like $9.99. Did I need 24 hats for 6 babies and 10 adults? Absolutely not. Did I care? Also no. Seriously, figuring out **how many cone hats do I need for a Barbie party** is like advanced calculus when you're sleep-deprived and running on cold coffee. I ended up with so many extra hats, I just gave them to my sister-in-law for her daycare art projects. Sometimes, it's just easier to overbuy and not stress. You gotta pick your battles, especially when you're juggling so much. Plus, I photograph everything, and let me tell you, those extra hats made for some hilarious background clutter in her smash cake photos.

πŸ“ GinyouGlobal, juπŸ‘€ Baseline for other partiesπŸ—“ Member since 2022⏱ 83 min later

OMG, Barbie party! That sounds AMAZING! Aria (my daughter, she's 13 now!) would LOVE that. You absolutely NEED hats! πŸ₯³ When she was younger, we did a "Glam Princess" theme, which was basically Barbie before it was cool again, haha! I used to be a total last-minute planner, just grabbing whatever looked good at Sedano's or wherever. But then I discovered the magic of spreadsheets for party planning! Total big deal for quantities. For Aria's big 13th, we had 10 girls for a sleepover. I grabbed two of those Kids Birthday Party Hats 11-Pack from GinyouGlobal, just to be safe. Ended up with a few extras, but better too many than not enough, right?! πŸ˜‚ We got the ones with the little poms on top, and they were a hit! Everyone loved them. I always kinda eyeball it, but then I remember that GINYOU post about How Many Cone Hats Do I Need For A Llama Party and try to use that as a baseline for other parties. It's usually a good starting point for figuring out numbers, even if the theme is totally different. Good luck with Stella's party, Logan! It sounds like it's going to be fabulous!
