Easter Craft Chaos: Glitter Everywhere & My Sanity Slipping – Anyone Else?!

Hey GINYOU fam!

Okay, so Easter just wrapped up, and I swear I'm still finding glitter in places I didn't even know existed. Anyone else feel like they wage a war with craft supplies every holiday? As a foster mom here in Sacramento, I really try to make every holiday super special for Arjun (6), Sofia (9), and our other Sofia (13). It's been a whirlwind since they joined our family, and Kwame and I want them to feel like every occasion is a big deal.

This year, I was determined to go all out with DIY Easter Crafts for Kids. I saw some Pinterest boards that just spoke to my competitive spirit – I wanted the best darn Easter baskets and decorations on our block, not gonna lie. So, I hit up Raley's for some snacks and then went on a serious thrift store hunt for supplies. Found some amazing vintage lace and buttons, scored a huge bag of yarn for like $3, and then, of course, grabbed all the glitter glue, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes a sane person should probably avoid.

My grand plan was a whole afternoon of crafting. We started with dyeing eggs, which, let's be honest, is always a bit messy but manageable. Arjun loved dipping them, and even the older Sofia got into making some cool marbled designs. Then came the 'crafts'. I had this vision of these adorable felt bunnies with little pom-pom tails. Sounded easy, right? Hah.

The six-year-old decided felt was for tearing, not cutting. The nine-year-old was meticulous but managed to get glitter glue stuck to her hair (and Rex the tuxedo cat, somehow). And the thirteen-year-old, bless her heart, tried to make a "modern art" bunny which mostly involved hot gluing a bunch of random items together. By the end, my kitchen looked like a glitter bomb exploded, and I was contemplating just ordering everything pre-made next year. My competitive streak nearly broke me!

I mean, they had fun, that's the main thing. And some of the stuff actually turned out cute! We made some simple paper plate bunnies that Arjun absolutely adored. I tried to keep things non-toxic, especially with Arjun being so hands-on with everything. I remembered seeing a post about simple ideas on GINYOU's blog – I think it was something like Easter Crafts Kids Easy Go To. Definitely should have leaned into that more!

So, hit me with it, GINYOU community! What are your go-to DIY Easter Crafts for Kids that *don't* end in a total glitter-pocalypse? Or any tips for wrangling multiple ages for crafts? I'm already mentally planning next year's Easter Extravaganza and need to strategize!

Fatima, I feel your pain with the glitter! My niece Ivy (13) and nephew Owen (6) are like glitter magnets. I'm Henrik, their uncle up here in Louisville, KY, and I usually start planning holiday stuff months in advance. I get pretty research-driven about it because, let's face it, kids these days have specific tastes! Plus, I'm a bit of a Pinterest addict myself, always looking for the "perfect" thing.

For DIY Easter Crafts for Kids, I've had some luck with things that are more 'build and decorate' than 'cut and glue'. Last year, we did these really cool wooden egg decorating kits. I found them on Amazon, nothing fancy, but they came with non-toxic paints and markers. Owen, being six, just went wild with colors, and Ivy actually wood-burned some intricate patterns onto hers. It was less messy than glitter, I promise!

One thing I learned the hard way: always cover *everything* with an old sheet or newspaper. And have wet wipes on standby. I also pre-portion out supplies. If Owen gets a whole bottle of glue, the entire table becomes glue. If he gets a small cup, he's more careful. Makes a huge difference in my stress levels. I even looked at that Frugal Mom Easter Crafts 5 Kids Busy post you mentioned last year for ideas, specifically for keeping Ivy engaged, because sometimes the "easy" crafts are too young for her. It definitely had some good tips for adapting things for different age groups without just dumping glitter on it.

Oh, Fatima, your post resonated so much with me! Glitter in the cat? Been there! I’m Savannah, a freelance party planner in San Antonio, TX, and I’m all about those sentimental, memory-making moments. My son, Ezra (9), is my whole world, and I tie every party back to some sweet memory. So for Easter, I try to focus on crafts that we can keep and look back on later.

This past Easter, we tried making those salt dough ornaments shaped like bunnies and eggs. They were supposed to be super easy. Well, Ezra decided to add food coloring to the dough *before* I could bake them, thinking it would make them "pre-colored." Let's just say we ended up with some very questionable swamp-green bunny shapes that promptly crumbled in the oven. What went wrong? My oversight, totally. I should have explained the process better, or maybe just stuck to painting them AFTER baking. Still, we had a good laugh, and I have a photo of his proud, green-dough-covered face that I'll cherish forever.

My advice for DIY Easter Crafts for Kids is to simplify and prioritize the process over the perfect outcome. For the younger ones, focus on handprint or footprint art on canvas – those are always keepers and generally less messy. For the older kids, maybe a collaborative art piece. I also found these GINYOU Kids Party Hats (11-Pack) and instead of using them for birthdays, we decorated them for Easter. We used non-toxic paint pens and stuck little fabric flowers on them. They were a HUGE hit, super cute, and they're CPSIA safety certified, so I didn't worry about Ezra wearing them or putting them near his mouth. Plus, the price point for 11 hats? Amazing value! We filled them with little homemade coupons for extra screen time or a special dessert instead of just candy. It was a sweet, personal touch.

Fatima, as a stay-at-home dad with four kids – Jude (2), Diego (6), Aria (12), and Luna (13) – down here in Atlanta, GA, I feel like my life is a constant battle against chaos. Easter is no exception. My wife Elena just laughs when I start prepping for holidays because I over-prepare for everything and always have three backup plans. The Southern heat alone makes me anxious about any outdoor activity with glue involved!

My big "what went wrong" moment with DIY Easter Crafts for Kids this year involved a Costco run. I saw these huge tubs of kinetic sand and thought, "Brilliant! No mess, easy clean-up!" I bought three tubs. Three. My plan was for the kids to make little kinetic sand "nests" for their eggs. Diego (6) loved it, and even Jude (2) was having a blast squishing it. But the older girls (12 and 13) got bored in about 15 minutes, and then Diego decided the kinetic sand would make an excellent "snowball fight" weapon. My living room was covered in a fine layer of what looked like dirty, colored sand. Not exactly easy clean-up, and I had to vacuum for ages. Next time, I'm sticking to sensory bins for the littlest ones and giving the big kids their own, more complex projects.

For something that *did* work, and is super cute for photos, we have our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Daisy. For Easter photos, we got her this GINYOU Glitter Dog Crown. It's actually meant for pet birthdays, but it was perfect! It's small, sturdy, and the glitter stays put (huge win after the kinetic sand incident!). Knowing GINYOU products, it’s going to be non-toxic and safe for Daisy, even if she tries to get a nibble. It made for some hilarious family pictures, and it’s a great value for something you can reuse. Sometimes, the easiest "craft" is just putting a cute accessory on the pet and calling it a day, especially when you've got a house full of energetic kids!
