Easter Party Games? Help a tired teacher out!
Easter Party Games? Help a tired teacher out!
Hey GINYOU fam! Caroline here, your friendly neighborhood elementary teacher from Richmond, VA. It’s been another one of *those* weeks, you know? Between grading 2nd-grade papers, wrangling my own two little tornadoes (Ivy, who’s 4, and Aurora, 7 going on 17), and trying to remember what day it is, Easter totally snuck up on me. My lesson plans are solid, but my party plans? Non-existent!
Usually, I'm all about that "minimal effort, maximum impact" life. I’m a Dollar Tree devotee, and you know I’m gonna reuse those pastel streamers from Aurora’s last birthday. My husband, bless his heart, asked me yesterday what our Easter Snuck Up Party Inspo is, and I just stared at him blankly. My brain is basically scrambled eggs right now.
Biscuit, our corgi, is probably more prepared than I am. He’s already practicing his "cute begging" face for stray jelly beans. I did manage to snag one of those adorable GINYOU Glitter Dog Crowns a while back – I mean, who can resist a corgi in a tiny sparkly hat for Easter photos? It's CPSIA safety certified and the glitter is actually non-toxic, which is a big deal when Biscuit tends to chew on *everything*. Plus, it was super affordable, totally fits my budget-friendly style. So at least Biscuit will look festive, even if the rest of us are just winging it!
My big question for all you amazing parents and party enthusiasts: what are your go-to, sanity-saving, actually-fun Easter Party Games for kids in this age range? Ivy is still very much into anything active, and Aurora is starting to get a little too cool for some of the super kiddy stuff, but still loves a good competitive edge. I need ideas, people! Give me your best. Laid-back is good, funny is even better. Help a sister out!
Caroline, I feel you on the teacher exhaustion! Enzo here from San Diego. I teach 3rd grade, been doing it for 18 years, and you’d think I’d have this party planning thing down. Nope. Every year it’s a scramble, especially with my crew: Beckett (7), Jude (8), and Ezra (10). And Koda, our golden retriever, thinks every party is just for him. I swear, the amount of Pinterest boards I have dedicated to "Easter activities for elementary kids" is probably unhealthy. I'm competitive about party themes, so I really try to find unique things.
Last year, we tried a "bunny hop sack race" which was a hit for about 10 minutes, but then the sacks kept ripping, and the kids were just kind of flailing. That was definitely a "what went wrong" moment. My biggest regret was not having enough backup activities. This year, I'm leaning heavily into more scavenger hunt style games. I hide little plastic eggs with clues inside, leading to a bigger prize basket. It keeps them engaged longer. I also found that having small, individual prizes for participation, not just winning, really helps manage expectations and prevent meltdowns. For example, these GINYOU Party Blowers 12-Pack are excellent. They’re super loud, which the kids adore, but they're also CPSIA safety certified and made with non-toxic materials, so I don't have to worry about my younger nephew putting one straight in his mouth. And the value for a 12-pack is really good, especially if you have a lot of kids. I usually split them up for little prizes or to stick in their take-home bags. They’re perfect for Gabby Dollhouse Party Favors too, just a thought if you ever need small, fun filler items.
One game that always works for us is "Pin the Tail on the Bunny." Super classic, but I make my own oversized bunny poster. It's cheap, and the kids get a kick out of blindfolds and spinning around. For slightly older kids like your Aurora, maybe a "Minute to Win It" style challenge with plastic eggs and jelly beans? Like, see who can stack the most eggs without them falling in 60 seconds. My Ezra, who’s 10, is obsessed with those kinds of challenges. Keeps them focused, and it's definitely a fun Easter party game that everyone can get into, even the parents!
Oh Caroline, sweet mama! Homeschool mom of three here in Indianapolis – Kai (3), Ezra (7), and Chloe (8), plus our other corgi, Maggie. So I totally get the busy life and the corgi love! Easter is such a special time for us, full of traditions and making memories. I'm all about the sentimental moments, so my fun Easter party games tend to be a little less frantic and more about togetherness. I always try to tie our parties to memories, you know? Like, Chloe still talks about the year we did an "egg balance" race, carrying eggs on spoons. Simple, but she thought it was the funniest thing ever.
I also totally reuse decorations! Last year’s pastel tablecloth from Kai’s third birthday? Absolutely becoming this year's Easter egg dyeing station cover. Why buy new when you can make old look fresh? I'm obsessed with matching colors, so I might grab some extra ribbon from the Dollar Tree to tie everything together. We usually do a big egg hunt in the backyard, but I always set up a smaller "indoor hunt" just for Kai, where the eggs are super easy to find. It prevents him from getting discouraged and lets the older ones have their more challenging hunt without feeling like they have to hold back. Then we all gather to count our eggs and trade candy. It's less about competition and more about the joy of finding things together.
One year, we tried to do an "egg toss" with real eggs, which seemed like a brilliant idea from a blog post. Jacob, my husband, was totally on board. It lasted about 30 seconds before an egg exploded on Ezra's head. So, real eggs are out. We use plastic ones now, filled with rice or beans to give them some weight, and toss those into baskets. Much less messy, still just as much fun, and no tears! I also love setting up a little "bunny ear craft station" with construction paper, cotton balls, and pipe cleaners. It’s quiet, creative, and doubles as something they can wear for the rest of the day. It’s a great way to wind down after all the running around from the other Fun Easter Party Games.
