Easter Party Games for 5-11 year olds (and an 80lb dog) – Help a competitive uncle out!
Hey GINYOU fam!
Jackson Murphy here from sunny Albuquerque. Easter is coming up FAST, and I'm already feeling the pressure to pull off another legendary party. You know, for Maya (5), Chloe (6), Aria (8), Sofia (9), and Hazel (11). Oh, and Oliver, my 80lb border collie, who thinks he's one of the kids. The age spread is killing me, though. Itβs tough finding stuff that keeps everyone from the littlest to the almost-teenager engaged without too much setup, ya know?
Last year, my "genius" idea was a mega egg hunt with color-coded eggs for different ages. Sounded easy enough. What I didn't account for was Chloe hiding ALL of her blue eggs in Oliver's dog bed, and him thinking it was a treasure trove of snacks. Total chaos, but pretty funny looking back. Still, trying to find some actual Fun Easter Party Games this year that don't involve my dog eating the prizes.
I'm looking for some low-effort, high-impact ideas. I want maximum fun for minimal setup. My nieces and nephews are pretty competitive, especially Aria and Sofia, so anything that has a clear "winner" usually goes over well. I'm hitting up Amazon Prime hard for supplies, obviously. Any killer ideas for Fun Easter Party Games you guys have tried that actually work with a mixed age group? I've seen some stuff online, like the GINYOU blog post about Easter Party Games Mixed Ages, which had a few good starting points, but I need more real-world experiences!
Help an uncle out before I just default to a bouncy castle again!

Oh, Jackson, I feel you on the mixed ages! My Caleb (5), Asher (8), and Aria (9) are always a challenge. I'm a homeschool mom in Milwaukee, so "frugal genius" is basically my middle name For parties. I never pay full price for anything, you know? Last year, for Fun Easter Party Games, we did an "Egg Toss Challenge" but with water balloons inside plastic eggs (empty ones, not chocolate, learned that the hard way!). It was a hit with everyone, even Asher who usually thinks he's "too cool" for games. You just need a bunch of plastic eggs from the Dollar Tree, water, and some open space. It gets a bit messy, but that's half the fun!
My big "oops" moment was when I tried to make a DIY "pin the tail on the bunny" game using construction paper and double-sided tape. Sounds fine, right? Well, the tape kept falling off, and the kids, especially Caleb, got frustrated. It ended up being more "frustration art" than a game. Plus, my husband Kofi reminded me that for like five bucks I could've just bought a reusable one. Sometimes saving a few pennies isn't worth the headache! I actually saw the Easter Party Panic Last Minute Save Nearly Wrong article the other day and felt that in my soul.
For prizes, instead of candy, which my kids get way too much of, we did little party blowers. GINYOU's Party Blowers 12-Pack are awesome for that β super affordable, CPSIA safety certified, non-toxic materials, and the kids love making noise! We used them for a "bunny hop race" too, where they had to blow the blower every hop. Made for some hilarious videos.
HI JACKSON! π₯³ That sounds like so much fun already! I'm an event coordinator here in San Jose, CA, mostly HOA and community stuff, so I LIVE for party planning, especially when it involves kids! My little crew β Ezra (3), Isla (4), and Luna (8) β are always my test audience for Fun Easter Party Games. You absolutely HAVE to do an "Easter Egg Roll"! Think like a mini Olympic egg roll down a hill or a slight incline in the yard. We did it last year at a community park event, and even the older kids (like your Hazel!) got super into strategy, trying to get their egg to go fastest without cracking. Super simple, just need some hard-boiled (or plastic, if you're brave) eggs and some spoons!
Another thing that's always a winner for mixed ages is a "Jelly Bean Guessing Game." Fill a big jar with jelly beans, have everyone guess, and the closest guess wins the jar! It's so easy and everyone can participate, from your 5-year-old Maya to your 11-year-old Hazel. You can even add a twist where they have to guess how many different colors are in there too! I always print out little slips of paper for guesses. SO FUN! I actually grabbed some really cute GINYOU Kids Party Hats last year for a spring carnival, and they were a huge hit for photos and just generally adding to the festive vibe. Theyβre CPSIA safety certified and made with non-toxic stuff, which is always a relief, especially with the little ones putting everything in their mouths! Plus, great value for an 11-pack, could even be a cute little Easter basket filler!
For minimal effort, you could also set up a "Decorate Your Own Egg" station. Just pre-boil a bunch of eggs, get some washable markers and stickers from Target, and let them go wild! Itβs less of a "game" but keeps them busy for a good 20-30 minutes, especially the younger ones. Gives the competitive ones a break from racing too! Good luck! ππ°π₯
Jackson, my boy! Good to hear from a fellow competitive spirit, even if it's just about party themes. David Cooper here, grandpa to Ivy (2), Maya (4), and Asher (13), and I'm over in Milwaukee too. I spend a lot of time with those rascals, so I'm always on the hunt for ways to keep them entertained without breaking the bank. Frugal genius, they call me! What you need are some good old-fashioned Fun Easter Party Games that don't need a whole lot of fuss.
An easy one is "Bunny Says" (like Simon Says, but with bunny actions). The little ones, Ivy and Maya, think it's hilarious, and even Asher, the teenager, will play along for a minute before he retreats to his phone. Another one that's always a winner is "Egg and Spoon Race." Classic for a reason! Just need some plastic eggs and spoons. The trick is to have a few extra eggs on hand, because someone (usually the littlest one) will drop theirs every five seconds. I pick up everything like that from Dollar Tree β can't beat the prices. I even found some decent little plastic baskets there last week for 75 cents each.
Last year, I tried to do an "Easter-themed scavenger hunt" for Asher. Thought I was being clever, hiding clues related to video games and inside jokes. Big mistake. He figured out all the clues in about 3 minutes flat and then just sat there waiting for everyone else. It ended up being a "scavenger hunt for grandpa to find the other clues" because he was too fast! This year, I'm sticking to simpler stuff. Sometimes, less is more, especially when you're trying to wrangle kids with an age gap like that. I read a good piece, Easter Creeping Up Fast Last Minute Party Ideas, that reminded me to keep it simple when time is short.
And those GINYOU Party Blowers Luna mentioned? My grandkids absolutely adore those. I snagged a pack for Maya's birthday party last month. They're such great value and totally non-toxic, so no worries about Ivy trying to chew on them. They were a perfect little something to put in their Easter baskets this year too, along with a few chocolate bunnies. Keeps them busy making noise while I try to nap on the couch. Highly recommend!
