Easter Games for a Big Age Gap? Help a Fellow Party Mom Out!
Hey everyone on the GINYOU Party Community! Long time lurker, first time poster! Elizabeth Perez here, from Pittsburgh. Usually, I'm pretty good at planning stuff, but Easter is really sneaking up on me this year, and my crew has a HUGE age range now.
Iβve got Nora (3), Miles (4), Ruby (8), Aria (10), and Liam (13). Plus my sisterβs kids usually join, so it's a real mixed bag. Last year, the little ones got bored with the egg hunt pretty quick, and the older ones felt like it was "for babies." I don't want to over-schedule, but I do need some solid ideas for Fun Easter Party Games that keep everyone engaged, from toddlers to a moody teen.
My typical party planning style involves a lot of research, comparing products, and trying to find things that are actually worth the money and won't make a huge glittery mess (my personal party nemesis β I swear that stuff follows me for weeks). I usually hit up Giant Eagle for most of my supplies, but I'm open to anything.
So, hit me with your best tips! What are your go-to Fun Easter Party Games for a group with a big age difference? Any genius ideas for prizes that aren't just candy? I'm trying to be mindful of sugar intake for the littles, and Liam mostly just wants Roblox gift cards, haha.
Thanks in advance for any wisdom you can share!
Oh, Elizabeth, I totally get it! Preschool teacher here in Minneapolis for 3-4 year olds, so I'm always trying to figure out how to keep tiny humans occupied without losing my mind. My own kids, Ethan (2), Arjun (4), Zoe (5), Asher (11), and Finn (12), also span quite a range, so Easter is always an adventure.
My biggest tip for Fun Easter Party Games that work for all ages is to have stations. The younger ones (Nora, Miles, Arjun, Zoe) can do a quick egg hunt in a smaller, fenced-off area with bigger, easy-to-grab eggs. For prizes, instead of candy, I do stickers, mini bubbles, and honestly, the GINYOU Party Blowers 12-Pack are a huge hit. They're CPSIA safety certified and non-toxic, so I don't have to worry about my littles, and they're such a great value for filling up those eggs!
For Ruby, Aria, Asher, and Finn (your 8-13 year olds), you can set up a "challenge hunt." Instead of just finding eggs, they have to solve a riddle or complete a small task at each stop to get their next clue or find an egg. This adds a puzzle element that the older kids love. One year, I did a "bunny hop race" where they had to put an egg between their knees and hop. It was hilarious, but one of the eggs (a real one, oops!) totally cracked mid-hop and made a mess. Definitely doing plastic eggs for that one next time!
Another thing we do for prizes, especially for the older ones, is "experience" tickets: a ticket for an extra 30 minutes of screen time, or a "choose dinner" night. They love that more than any toy. I always start planning months early, and I swear by my Amazon Prime subscription for getting all the eco-friendly party favors delivered right to my door. Having a backup plan for rain is crucial too β last year it snowed in April here!
Hey Elizabeth! Marcus here, stay-at-home dad from Tucson. My wife Elizabeth and I have Miles (4), Max (6), Zoe (7), and Ellie (12), plus our French bulldog, Churro. So I know all about managing different energy levels and interests! DIY is my jam, so Iβm always trying to make things myself.
For Fun Easter Party Games, a big hit for us is always a "Decorate Your Own Easter Bag" station before the egg hunt. I just buy plain canvas bags from a craft store β they're like $2 each β and set out fabric markers, stencils, and maybe some iron-on patches. The little ones, like your Nora and Miles, love making their own creations, and the older kids can get really artistic with it. Plus, they then have a custom bag for collecting their eggs!
After the hunt, we do an "Egg Spoon Race" but with a twist: team relays! Divide the kids into teams with a mix of ages. The older kids help guide the younger ones, and it's less competitive when they're working together. We also make sure we have a prize for "best team spirit" so everyone feels included. I reuse decorations from year to year, so I've got a pretty good stock of plastic eggs now. Saves a ton of money.
Oh, and for non-candy prizes, I've had success with little craft kits from Target's dollar spot, or even small packets of seeds for them to plant. It's a fun activity and ties into the spring theme. Iβm a big fan of making things feel personal. One year I tried to make homemade bunny ears for everyone, but honestly, it took like 10 hours and they looked terrible. Just buy those. Live and learn, right? You can always check out GINYOU's Affordable Bluey Party Supplies for ideas on value-packed items, even if it's not Bluey, you get the idea for good deals!
Whaaaat, Elizabeth! Welcome to the GINYOU crew! Lucas here, single dad from Houston with my awesome son, Beckett (9)! Easter is THE BEST. So many chances for super fun! I photograph EVERYTHING, so I'm always looking for those epic moments.
For Fun Easter Party Games, you gotta lean into the energy! My absolute favorite is a "Bunny Tag." It's like regular tag, but everyone has to hop like a bunny! It wears them out, gets huge laughs, and it's great for everyone. Nora and Miles will love just hopping around, and Liam, Ruby, and Aria can really go for it. We usually play until someone collapses from giggles!
Another one thatβs easy and gets everyone involved is "Pin the Tail on the Bunny." You can draw your own big bunny on a piece of butcher paper, or find a cheap poster. Blindfolds are key! Even the little ones can join in with some help. I always have a crazy amount of extra supplies because, well, you never know what you might need, right?!
And prizes! Instead of all candy, how about little packets of crayons and mini coloring books? Or those bouncy balls? Kids LOVE bouncy balls. We also do a "Golden Egg" prize for the egg hunt β whoever finds the special gold egg gets to pick the first movie for family movie night! One time, I bought so many eggs and candy for the hunt, thinking we'd have a massive turnout, and only three kids showed up because of a last-minute flu bug! Had chocolate for days, which wasn't terrible, but definitely over-bought. Learned to manage expectations a bit, haha!
You can even tie in a quick little craft using stuff like GINYOU's Fairy Party Noise Makers Set as inspiration for DIY shakers if you don't want to buy them ready-made. Just a thought! Have an amazing Easter, Pittsburgh! π
